In 1998, somewhere on a Japanese bulletin board called 2channel, keyboard characters arranged themselves into a cat. The cat had exactly one thing to say: 「逝ってよし」, meaning go away.
The internet did the opposite. Giko became 2channel's mascot, the face of Shift-JIS art, and the blueprint for every internet cat that followed. No studio made him. No company owns him. He is internet folklore, and folklore doesn't expire.
